As a teenager I was lucky enough to be given a beautiful, big, black mare to ride. She had an amazing temperament, was extremely trainable, strong and sturdy. She loved eventing and took anything thrown at her in her stride. She was a Percheron / Thoroughbred cross and she developed in me a love for the breed that is still strong today. Her son is still used with the Melbourne Hunt Club as the Whipper In's horse and has proven as sturdy as his mum.
In 2008 we realised a dream and bought a Purebred Percheron colt, Kamilaroi Gendarme, by Lasswade Olam out of Kamilaroi Xeres and who carries the amazing Hermes bloodlines. The Kamilaroi Stud, in Queensland, is renowned throughout the Australian Percheron community as one of the best and is responsible for the importation of Hermes from England in 1978, the first French bred sire to be imported into Australia in 40 years. We thank Elwyn Park dearly for allowing us the opportunity to take on Gendarme.
Gendarme will be standing at stud to selected ASB Thoroughbred, registered Percheron & Percheron Warmblood mares in 2010. Keep an eye out for him at our agricultural shows throughout the next year. He is sure to stand out from the crowd.
A sample of some of the horses with Percheron blood are : Merlins Masterpiece - competing FEI dressage, Mark Todd's 'Charisma' and Gillian Roltons 'Peppermint Grove'. The NSW, VIC & QLD Police force use several Percheron Warmbloods as does the Kamilaroi Vaulting Team.
Gendarme will be servicing a very limited number of mares in his first season to the public so be sure to register your interest quickly and for any further information regarding Gendarme please send us an email via the Contact Us page.
